A former Republican congressman fired back at Anderson Cooper on Monday night after the CNN anchor criticized former President Donald Trump for spreading claims of voter fraud — arguing that the left-leaning network has promoted false claims itself.
Former Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.) argued that millions of Americans are “troubled” by allegations of voter fraud through mail-in ballots during the 2020 election and are worried about the results in November.
“They want to have safe and secure elections, just like anybody, and the former president is emphasizing that,” Taylor said.
“Any time you start your argument with, ‘There are people who believe this,’ it weakens your argument. I mean, it’s like the classic high school debate,” Cooper argued.
“Anderson, with all due respect, with all due respect, then it would be the same with the Steele dossier, Hunter Biden’s laptop, the lab leak theory download, Jussie Smollett and so on and so forth,” Taylor replied.
“On this network, be honest, I mean you guys didn’t have the facts right there, did you? And people believe these things. With all due respect.”
CNN has faced criticism for printing the story of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal on The Post’s front page.
CNN had reported that the FBI was investigating claims that the laptop scandal was a Russian disinformation effort against former Vice President Joe Biden.
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) — who served on the Jan. 6 select committee and voted to impeach Trump — argued that CNN’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop and other matters was “completely different” because it did not it was an effort”. to overthrow the elections”.
“Oh really, Adam? This laptop ‘Russia, Russia’ and Hunter Biden was not an attempt to interfere in the election? Taylor said. “Of course it was, you know that.”
The argument revolved around a Social Truth post by Trump on Sunday.
“A Tucker Carlson interview of an election expert shows that 20% of mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania are fraudulent,” Trump wrote. “We’re going to win Pennsylvania big unless the Democrats are allowed to cheat.”
Cooper said Trump was “lying” because there is “no evidence” of voter fraud.
“Look, like I said before, there are a lot of irregularities in the 2020 election that have never happened before, right? There are people who have problems with it – said Taylor.
Cooper interrupted the former congressman and asked for specific improprieties.
“Certainly, suspending state laws that didn’t happen before COVID ticks the boxes that are unsafe,” Taylor said. “There are a lot of things out there that changed in 2020 that are still out there now.”
Taylor said he ran for re-election in 2020 and lost, but there are a lot of other people “who had issues with the way 2020 was handled.”
“There are people around the dinner table who think the Earth is flat,” Cooper said. “That doesn’t make it true.”
“What I just mentioned to you, those are facts,” Taylor replied.
